Understanding the Salesforce Partner Program

The Salesforce Partner Program is a program designed to help companies who provide products and services that integrate with or extend the functionality of Salesforce’s cloud-based platform. The program is intended to help partners grow their businesses and better serve their customers by providing them with access to Salesforce’s products, resources, and support.

When associations and nonprofit organizations decide to adopt Salesforce as their platform, they have choices, and lots of them. And while more options are great, the different types of partners and how you work and purchase from them can be confusing.

Salesforce ISV Partner Program

The Salesforce ISV (Independent Software Vendor) partner program is a program for companies that develop and sell software applications that are built 100% native on the platform or integrate with the Salesforce platform. The program provides partners with access to Salesforce’s technology and resources, including its developer community, marketing and sales support, and training and certification opportunities. Partners can also receive benefits such as co-marketing, lead generation, and co-selling. The goal of the program is to help ISVs build, market, and sell successful applications on the Salesforce platform through the Salesforce Appexchange.

The two different partnerships that fall under the ISV program include:

Salesforce OEM Partners: These partners build their applications 100% native on the Salesforce platform. They have a contractual agreement with Salesforce to sell their application with an embedded Salesforce platform seat.

Salesforce ISV Force Partner: These partners can build 100% native on the Salesforce platform, or partially through a product integration. They have a contractual agreement to pay a percentage of the application to Salesforce, and the customer will need to purchase licenses directly from Salesforce. You are paying for access to the partners IP.

Salesforce SI Partners: Salesforce SI (Systems Integrator) partners are companies that provide consulting and implementation services for organizations that use the Salesforce platform. SI partners typically have a team of certified Salesforce consultants and developers who have experience working with the Salesforce platform, and can provide end-to-end services, from planning and design, to development and deployment, to ongoing maintenance and support.

Salesforce SI partners also have access to Salesforce’s resources such as its developer community, marketing and sales support, and training and certification opportunities. The goal of this program is to help SI partners build, market, and sell successful services on the Salesforce platform for their clients. Salesforce SI partners have expertise in different industries and different Salesforce solutions.

Its important to point out that while most SI partners have the expertise in the different Salesforce solutions, most don’t have experience working with the association marketplace.
